GSI Health participates in the following industry initiatives and workgroups driving health IT policies, standards, architecture, and interoperability strategies.

ONC S&I – GSI Health is actively participating in the ONC sponsored S&I framework workgroups responsible for instituting industry-wide standards for system interoperability. We are committed not only to contributing to the standards level but also adopting relevant reference implementations and incorporating them into our product offerings.

The Direct Project – GSI Health played a key leadership role in ONC’s (Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT) ‘Direct project’, which provided simple, secured, scalable & standards-based specifications for point-to-point messaging for health information. GSI Health was involved in the project from its inception and served on various workgroups responsible for specifications writing, communications & education and implementations. GSI Health provided program management, software development & technical integration services for Direct Project pilot in the state of New York.

HIMSS Interoperability Showcase and IHE Connectathon – GSI Health participated in the IHE North America Connectathon – where we integrated and tested our HIE platform with other health IT vendors for standards-based & successful healthcare information interoperability. GSI Health’s participation in IHE Connectathon was a precursor to the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase as part of the HIMSS11 conference in Orlando.  For more on our testing results click here.

Nationwide Health Information Network Trial Implementation - GSI Health participated in every phase of the Nationwide Health Information Network. We have delivered public health quality reporting, and clinical summary exchange capabilities to several NHIN communities, and integrated with multiple NHIN vendor platforms, including IBM and CSC.

New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) - GSI Health participates in many NYeC work groups to advance statewide HIE policy, standards, architecture, and privacy and security solutions since 2008.  NYeC is a statewide public private partnership charged by the NYS Department of Health with serving as a focal point for all health care stakeholders to set and build consensus on health IT priorities and policy guidance and ensure interoperable HIE is achieved statewide.

We have taken on several leadership roles, including a number of speaking engagements at the HIMSS national conferences, leading workgroups on interoperability, and authoring books and articles through the HIMSS publishing arm.

Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) – GSI Health is a member of IHE.  IHE is a global initiative that creates the framework for passing vital health information seamlessly – from application to application, system to system, and setting to setting – across multiple healthcare enterprises.

Health Level Seven International (HL7) – GSI Health is a member of HL7.  HL7 is the global authority on standards for interoperability of health information technology with members in over 55 countries.

NHIN Trial Impl:  GSI Health participated in every phase of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN [though I see people writing it as NW-HIN now since there was some flap over the NHIN name]). We have delivered public health quality reporting, and clinical summary exchange capabilities to several NHIN communities, and integrated with multiple NHIN vendor platforms, including IBM and CSC.
